Butler Rural Water District #5 was incorporated in 1977 and is a nonprofit Rural Water District organized under the laws of the State of Kansas. Water is purchased from the City of El Dorado and City of Wichita which is treated surface water. From the connection, water travels through 1000 miles of waterlines to customers.
The cost for the right to rural water can be found on our Meter and Tap page. Meters are installed just onto your property. Installation cost from the meter to the home is the responsibility of the homeowner. In the event a road crossing or a line extension is necessary, the homeowner is responsible for the extra costs.
When the property is sold, the Benefit Unit right needs to be transferred to the new owner. To request a transfer application, contact The District at 316-778-1631. There is either a $70.00 or $100.00 transfer fee, depending if the property is located in Butler County or Sedgwick County.
If you rent or lease the property, no transfer application or deposit is required. There is a $25.00 administration fee added to your first water bill. You must contact the District at 316-778-1631 and provide your name, billing address, phone number, and date of occupancy. The Benefit Unit will remain in the name of the property owner.
